Question: How can you be a good steward with no
money, time or talent?
Answer: Give
blood.
With an hour of your time and the obligation to
drink fluids and eat cookies, you can save up to 3 lives by donating a
pint of blood. The miraculous machine you live in allows you to
do this every 8 weeks. No tax deduction, but you could save up
to 18 lives a year.
To make it easier to share this priceless gift,
Epiphany has decided to host a blood drive every eight weeks or six
times a year. Our Centerville location, size and access provide an ideal
site to offer our community this service. At the same time, it
is an opportunity to be more visible to our community and let our
community learn about us.
If you are healthy, 17 years or older, and weigh
at least 110 pounds, you may be one of the 60% eligible to give blood.
Consider being one of those who does. For eligibility questions,
contact the Community Blood Center at 461-3450, e-mail them at
canidonate@cbccts.org or
visit their web site at
www.cbccts.org.

A
member of Epiphany’s blood drive team will welcome you and give you a
number so that everyone is seen in the order that they arrived.
You will
next register with the Community Blood Center. When your number
appears, it is your turn to register. The wait is rarely longer than
a few minutes. Please bring a picture ID.
After
you complete a short questionnaire, a nurse reviews your answers with
you and checks your blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate.
A few drops of blood from your finger are used to check the iron in
your blood. All information collected is confidential.
A Nurse
will clean and sterilize a location on your arm. You may feel
a little ‘sting’ as the needle is
inserted. It will take approximately 6 - 12 minutes to
collect a pint of blood. A few additional tubes of blood will
be collected to test for viruses and determine your blood type.
At
the canteen, you will eat cookies and drink juice to replenish your
sugar and fluids. Remember that in the past 45 - 60 minutes, you have
just saved a life, and maybe two or three. Thank You ! ! !
